05 Oct Why fall is the best season for quality family time
Fall is finally here! A favorite season for many, it’s time to get outside in the crisp fall air and head down to your local farm to pick up some pumpkins, apples, mums, cider, and other fall produce of the sort. Fall is one of the best seasons because there are so many fun outdoor activities to do with the family, no matter where you live. One of my favorite things to do is celebrate Texas agriculture at the State Fair of Texas, and this year there will be lots to celebrate.
Covering more than 240 acres (everything’s bigger in Texas, right?), the State Fair has a plethora of fun activities to do with the family, including petting zoos, demonstrations, educational activities, a milking parlor, a WWI 100th year anniversary exhibit, and of course, lots of delicious food. The best part of the Texas State Fair is that it’s a nonprofit with a mission to promote agriculture, education, and community involvement, as well as serve the South Dallas area—which is considered a food desert—by bringing in fresh fruits and vegetables. In short, this is a great way to kill two birds with one stone: you can have fun with the family and teach your kids about serving their community.
Of course, Texas isn’t the only state that offers an awesome state fair. There are plenty of opportunities in each state to celebrate agriculture, educate your children, and have fun. You can find dates for your state’s fair on TripSavvy. If you missed your state’s fair this year, that doesn’t mean you can’t plan ahead for next year. If you live near one of the best pumpkin farms in the U.S., you could spend the day there in the meantime. Either way, the possibilities for fall activities are endless!
