28 Sep Creating with Kids
Food always tastes better when you eat it with someone you love. And the food is even tastier when you can attribute fun memories to it. That’s why I love to share recipes on my social media—it gives parents new ideas for family dinner and it creates a fun activity to do with your kids.
My daughter Acie and I took on the cooking challenge together using a recipe I posted last week from The Lean Green Bean. We had a lot of fun creating together, and we came out with some delicious spinach balls. We even took our own spin on the recipe by using vanilla yogurt instead of plain, adding a ½ cup of bread crumbs instead of ¾ cup, and reducing food waste by adding some leftover zucchini we had from stuffed red peppers we made the night before.
Teaching your children new skills and lessons can be as easy as taking some time out of your evening to cook something easy and delicious. It means more to children than you know when you include them in your daily activities. And even if your kids aren’t interested in spending time together cooking at the kitchen counter, the food you create will bring everyone together at the dinner table. It’s these places where conversations start that will help you learn more about your children’s lives, interests, and passions.
If you’re looking for some dinner inspiration of your own, check out some of these other fun recipes I’ve shared in the past. Don’t be afraid to think outside the box with modifications, and especially don’t be afraid to buy your ingredients from your local farmers!
