21 Nov Be thankful everyday. Not just at Thanksgiving.
I look forward to Thanksgiving every year. It’s a nice time for some downtime with friends and family and for watching football.
Each year as we approach Thanksgiving, we see more topics around being thankful. It’s a great time to remind us as it always ties in well with the holiday.
But why does it have to take Thanksgiving for us to be thankful and appreciative? Being thankful should be a part of our everyday lives.
A friend from Uganda Africa recently talked about some of the things that were happening in his country. One night, he was riding home on his bike, but in the dark because the power was off. Suddenly, the electricity was restored and when it was, adults and children shouted loudly as it was a miracle to them. The citizens of Uganda are not sure on a daily basis how long they will have electricity or if they will have it at all as the government decides that for them. So when they do have it, it’s a miracle and they are cheerful and thankful. Could you imagine if that was our lives here in America and jumping for joy to have electricity?
In our country, we expect electricity 24/7 and if our power goes down, we are calling the electrical companies and they work to restore it as fast as possible. We don’t think about what it would be like if we didn’t have that luxury. It’s easy for us to take for granted even the most basic things in our everyday lives whether it is our electricity, the food on our table, the car we drive, or the friends and family that support us.
As you approach Thanksgiving 2017, challenge yourself. Everyday be thankful. Be appreciative of the big and the small things.
And as a side note, thank a farmer that helped produce the food you’ll have at your next meal. It brings a smile to our face to know you care.
May you and your families have a blessed Thanksgiving!
